The Importance of Purity in "Natural" Products

Many skin products contain extracts from plants. The word "extract" typically means that all the hydrophobic (water-insoluble) compounds have been extracted from the plant. These extracts often contain 100s of different compounds at varying concentrations. For a product that has multiple plant extracts, you could be looking at 1,000s of compounds in very small quantities. These mixtures of compounds will often vary greatly from each batch of plants making it difficult to produce a consistent product. It is also very difficult to determine how much of any given compound in the mixture is penetrating to the epidermis and even more difficult to determine if that compound is having any effect.

The Kalm Patch uses only purified 18 beta glycyrrhetinic acid from the licorice plant. Purity is verified by high pressure liquid chromatography (HP-LC), mass spectrometry (MS), infrared spectrometry (IR), and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). All testing is done under current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) by 3rd party labs. The purity ensures that you receive a consistent, safe, high quality product from Kalm Wellness every time you order.
